Kathmandu. Internet service providers will now have to mention the tax charges paid by the customer and the fees charged by the internet service provider separately in the bill. Preparations have been made to provide these details separately in the bill to be given to the customer from the new fiscal year 2078/79.
In recent days, consumer organizations have been raising this issue. Internet customers are also requesting that the fees paid to the service providers and the taxes paid to the government be provided separately in the bill.
Meanwhile, the Internet Service Providers Association of Nepal (ISPAN) has started preparations to mention the internet fee and the fee to the government separately in the bill to be given to the customer. According to the association, after in-depth discussions on various angles including accountability, transparency and consumer rights, it has been decided to separate the tariff and internet fee bill from July 1.
Under this, internet fee, royalty, Rural Telecommunication Development Fund (RTDF), Support and Maintenance, TSC and VAT should be mentioned in the bill.
In addition, ISPAN has initiated initiatives with related stakeholders. The regulator had written a letter to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority and the Inland Revenue Department on July 29 requesting for approval.
Meanwhile, officials from the Telecommunications Authority and Spain discussed the issue on Sunday. During the discussion, it was stated that it has been decided to re-submit the request for approval to mention the tax fee to be paid by the customer and the fee to be charged by the service provider separately in the bill.
